Greetings, data-tamers.
We're in mid-February, and I'm still in the middle of my data archive clean-up project. This week's progress involved moving a ton of data and deleting none of it:
- Week: Q1/2025, Week 6
- Files deleted: 0
- Files triaged: 821,191
After telling you all that I thought I was almost done with gathering data last week, I realized I still had a bunch of multi-layered archives sitting on my old Synology NAS backup device--one I got many years ago before a hardware upgrade. Much of that data exists elsewhere, but a lot of it doesn't, and it absolutely needs to be included in this massive collect-and-clean project. The downside is that not only is there a lot of it, but copying it off the NAS is somewhat slow (old hardware, inefficient network architecture). Rather than spend time trying to speed the process up, I'm just letting it go at its leisurely pace, confident that it will finish one of these days. It's already been copying for 3-4 days. At the current rate, it should be done by next week.
Slow progress is still progress!
Attacking the Tidy '24 Publishing Backlog
I'm taking a shortcut this week so I have some time to play in the snow with my kids this afternoon. I managed--finally--to start getting the six-month backlog of Tidy '24 newsletters up onto the Tidy Bytes website, which I promised you at the beginning of January. It's not a "click-once-and-you're-done" process, which is why I haven't done it already, but at least it isn't terribly difficult. Just a bit time-consuming. This week, I got through everything from last July, which was Security Month:
- Week 1 (7/2) - Password Managers
- Week 2 (7/9) - Two-Factor Authentication
- Week 3 (7/16) - Backups
- Week 4 (7/23) - VPNs
- Week 5 (7/30) - Phishing
Re-reading these as I published them, I'm still quite happy with all of the content.
